Photo London, a major international photography event, is coming to Somerset House this week. From 21 to 24 May, the event will showcase the broad range of photographic practice – from vintage to contemporary – and feature over 70 of the world’s leading photography galleries.
As London’s first international photography fair, Photo London will harness the passionate, growing audience for photography in the city and nurture a new generation of collectors.
Alongside the fair, there will be an exciting public programme supported by the LUMA Foundation presenting three large-scale exhibitions and two site-specific installations, all specially commissioned for Photo London. These include Beneath the Surface, showing hidden treasures from the Victoria and Albert Museum’s Photographs Collection, the first UK exhibition of Kaveh Golestan’s Prostitute series and the epic Genesis in Platinum, displaying previously unseen platinum prints by Sebastião Salgado. Somerset House will also provide a dramatic backdrop for new installations The Teaser by Rut Blees Luxembourg and Cities by Sohei Nishino.
Visitors to Photo London can enrich their experience by attending the lively talks and lectures programme, curated by Professor Francis Hodgson, that features some two dozen luminaries from the field, including Don McCullin, Sebastião Salgado, Susan Derges, William A. Ewing, Mitch Epstein, Simon Schama, Rankin and Stephen Shore.
