The portait of the Queen in Westminster Abbey

Celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

A portrait of Her Majesty the Queen standing on the Cosmati pavement in Westminster Abbey was officially unveiled at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra, Australia, and then exhibited in London as part of the celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Momart advised the National Portrait Gallery and Australian-born artist Ralph Heimans on the complex movements of the 9 × 11ft oil on canvas. We met the artist to plan the best route out of the studio for this large-scale painting, and our technicians visited all the sites scheduled for the launch photography and the installation to precisely measure and plan transport routes. We constructed two travel frames and a specially adapted museum specification case for the movement of the artwork by road and air freight.
